EU supports youth project about climate change

During the last years climate has been an important topic both in national and international media. Unique archaeological finds that come up from retreating glaciers as a result of melting ice, are one of the visible consequences of climate change.

Once in the ice, objects were preserved in a unique way and only the last years' ice melting has given us the opportunity to get insight into daily life in the time of vikings.

Oppland County Municipality, local authority in Lom, County Governor in Oppland, Nasjonalparkriket, the Norwegian Nature Inspectorate and the Norwegian Mountain Museum work on a preliminray project where the main goal is to establish world's first climate park (Klimapark 2469) near Juvasshytta lodge in Jotunheimen National Park. Children and youth are the target group for Klimapark.  

The target group for Klimapark are children and youth. They will be able to meet both past and present in the Klimapark. This meeting will contribute to create identity and consciosness around climate, cultural heritage and sustainability.

According to young, adults and decision makers have big trouble realising how serious the situation with climate is and going from words to action.

Prosjektet som nå har fått støtte fra EU-programmet Aktiv Ungdom, vil legge vekt på å bevisstgjøre ungdom denne muligheten, samt kartlegge, åpne og bruke arenaer der dialog mellom ungdom og beslutningstakere kan foregå. Deltakerne vil komme med innspill til utviklingen av Klimapark2469 sett fra ungdommens eget ståsted. De vil kartlegge gode internasjonale eksempler på hvordan barn og unge er trukket inn i klimatiltak og ulike klimaprosjekter, samt kartlegge internasjonale barne- og ungdomsnettverk knyttet til klimaarbeid - nettverk det kan dras veksler på i det videre arbeidet med klimaparken.

Aktivitetene i ungdomsprosjektet vil være klimacamper og samlinger hvor ungdommer sammen med fagfolk debatterer klima og miljøutfordringer. Hvilken påvirkning har klimaendringene på vår natur, og hvordan kan disse effektene best formidles til barn og unge? Det vil bli lagt til rette for workshops, foredrag, debatter og deltakelse i feltarbeid sammen med forskere. I løpet av prosjektperioden vil ungdommene blant annet utarbeide krav og innspill til politikere lokalt, nasjonalt og på EU-nivå.

Prosjektdeltakerne samles til sitt første møte på klimacamp i Jotunheimen 13. – 16. august.
