Youth Climate Camp 2010

August 12th - 15th 2010 at Raubergstulen, Lom, Jotunheimen National Park


From Camp 2009, Jotunheimen, Juvass                    

Accommodation: Participants should bring their own tents. A few extra tents will also be available. Access to bathroom and shower at Raubergstulen tourist cabin.

Food will be provided by Klimapark 2469 /gathered from the area by participants.

Cost: no fee or accommodation costs. Participants will have to pay the transportation costs (train to Otta, bus route to Lom and Raubergstulen).

 

Programme outline – draft:

Thursday 12th: arrival, putting up the tents and the explore the camp-site, introduction and ice-breaking games. Divide into working groups, preparing dinner. Entertainment by the fire / walk / spare time.

Friday 13th: Day of climate research in the field by Juvfonna (archaeology, meteorology, glaciology and more), with scientists. Celebrity guests and politicians also participating.

Saturday 14th: lecture on climate challenges and solutions, focusing on our role in influencing climate policies (Natur og Ungdom / Naturvernforbundet). workshop/debate.

Activist workshop (Y FoE /international youth guests /activists). In groups: making plans for climate actions after homecoming.

Optional workshops: activist arts / local handicraft / fishing / gathering / archery / outdoor life “survival” course / photo course

Evening: meeting politicians (local –  national). Interrogation/grill/debate.

Dinner, entertainment, open space in the camp-site, spare time

Sunday 15th: Optional hiking and glacier walking to Galdhøpiggen (long) or Styggebreen (short trip), or village walk in Lom for participants who have to leave early. Climate action on top of Galdhøpiggen.

 

Participant quotas:

  • 20 young people are already involved:
  • 10 organizers from Nasjonalparkriket NU and Ungdommens Fylkesting
  • 10 project partners from Poland

 

50 young people will be selected by application (active climate activists having a first mortgage):

  • 10 from local Youth Councils
  • 10 from local high schools
  • 10 international activists (Y FoE etc)
  • 20 Norwegian climate activists (NU)
