At Nord-Gudbrandsdal upper secondary school internationalisation is actively used as a tool to improve the quality and increase the attractiveness of vocational education. Including exchange opportunities in the programmes has positive effects on the students’ motivation and work efforts.
The students receive information on exchange possibilities already in the first semester of the first year. This gives them time to prepare for an exchange abroad in the second or third year. They know that they will not be selected for an exchange if they have a lot of absence or weak results. Exchange programmes increase the students’ motivation and make them work harder.
Lene Sørbråten is responsible for the international projects at Nord-Gudbrandsdal upper secondary school. She says that there is a lot to gain by participating in international cooperation. – Exchanges abroad have many learning aspects. The main focus is on learning a profession, but there are also many other learning outcomes; languages skills, cultural understanding etc. An exchange abroad will give the students competences and skills that are required by local industry and businesses.
