European project on Mountain Transhumance

Mountain pasture

Oppland county authority has taken the role as lead partner in a European cooperation on pastoralism in mountain areas. Mountain regions in Italy, France, Romania and Norway are partners in the project, as well as the organisation Euromontana. The consortium has submitted a project application to Interreg IVC, and the overall objective of the project is to encourage, maintain and promote the transhumance and mountain pastoralism system and practice with all its added values. The partners have great expectations that the project will result in helping them develop adapted policies to sustain a traditional activity essential to maintain the landscape, that is in itself a cultural heritage, and that benefits not only its direct stakeholder but also the environment and indirect stakeholdes (e.g. within tourism).
