Political structure


The County Council

The County Council is the prinicpal elected body and consists of 37 representatives who are directly elected every 4 years. They meet 4-5 times a year to decide on matters of principle and overriding importance, including budgetary and financial planning.

In the period 2007 - 2011 the representation in the County Council is as follows:

Labour Party - 16
Centre Party - 6
Progress Party - 6
Conservative Party - 4
Socialist Left Party - 2
Liberal Party - 2
Christian Democratic Party - 1


County Chairman Audun Tron County Chairman
 County Chairman Mr. Audun Tron (Labour), was elected to  
 his present position as Chairman of the County Council in 
 2003 and reelected in 2007. He has a long political career, as
 Mayor of Lillehammer and Secretary of The Ministry of Local
 Government and Regional Development.

 

 

The County Executive Board
The County Council elects 9 representatives from among its members to form the County Executive Board. This body meets appr. once a month to make decisions and recommendations in all matters unless otherwise provided by statute.

 

The committees
The County Council has established three committees:

  • The Regional Committee
  • The Municipal Committee
  • The International committee
